Hiccups

I have a nasty case of the hiccups. They won't go away, regardless of how many times I hold my breath. This is defintely not a crisis situation, but it does make it difficult to concentrate or do normal sorts of things, like, say, sleep. Hence I am blogging at 1:30 am. I feel that this may be a metaphor for life. Things keep happening - not major things, but a series of "hiccups," small events that, when added together, make normal functionality difficult. It's taking me forever to do everything lately, mostly because my brain power is being swallowed by all the hiccups. Grrr.

I like this metaphor, although I'm sorry you had to be up in the middle of the night to arrive at it.
When I was at summer camp many years ago, my counselor told me the cure for hiccups was to "hold your breath and draw a horse in the air." Have you tried that one?

If they last for more than a day call your Dr.-- My husband gets them once in a while and they gave him Thorazine (sp?). Hiccups that won't stop are. Not. Fun.

Hope they're gone now!

A wierd solution someone once recommended to me which is strangely effective: think about peanut butter.

My Mom's favorite recommendation, also with a good success rate: drink a glass of water from the far side of the glass.

More unsolicited advice:

Grandma said to put your pinky fingers out and reach them towards each other. Hold them as close together as you can without letting them touch.

Did you really have hiccups at 1:10 AM?? You could have called - I was up hacking away. Any ideas how to keep from coughing all night? (no, Nyquil isn't working)

Well, I am praying they go away. There are all kind of remedies aren't there from having someone scare you to holding your breath. Usually holding your breath works, but sometimes a spoonful of sugar helps to. Good luck.

Prayer is good. Hope you are doing better.

A man in Pennsylvania received a patent in June for the first official, science-based hiccup cure. He has just launched his company, The Hic-Cup Ltd. His Class I medical device cure hiccups reliably, instantly, and discreetly! Sounds like something many folks could use in church! perhaps other speakers and pastors would be interested as well. The website is www.Hic-Cups.com and there is a press Release about it on the web.

I am raising awareness on how problem hiccups (singultus) is a bigger problem than we are conditioned to think. The embarassement and sress they produce seems ridiculous in this day and age of technoplogy and advanced communications. Share your story on my blog http://HiccupHell.blogspot.com
